Porcelain and "gold sun" mug

The sun at teatime

This porcelain mug is decorated with a yellow and gold stylised version of the sun, the emblem of king Louis XIV. The sun represents Apollo, god of peace and the arts, but it is also the star that gives life to things, and is regularity itself, rising and setting with an unfailing rhythm. This motif is found very often in the décor of the Château de Versailles, alongside portraits and other royal emblems.

We advise you not to use your microwave or dishwasher owing to the gilding on the surface of the mug.
