Delicately painted by hand, this figurine for a child represents the Sun King in his royal coronation costume as seen in the portrait of Louis XIV in Coronation Costume painted in 1701 by Hyacinthe Rigaud (1659-1743) on commission from the king. The original is on display in the Louvre museum while a signed copy with different dimensions is on view in the Apollo Salon of the Château de Versailles.
