"I will flower wherever I am taken" was the motto of the French East India Company

This delicious pair of earrings in the shape of vanilla pods is a design of the artist La Fille du Consul. Each pendant is hand moulded in polymer clay so that each earring for pierced ears is a unique piece. In the artist's delicate work you can see the typical streaks on the sides of this aromatic spice.

Brought back to France from the voyages made by French East India Company, vanilla was highly appreciated by Louis XIV. He decided to develop plantations of the orchids from which these pods grow on Reunion island. Many botanical experiments were carried out in the royal greenhouses in the 17th and 18th centuries to acclimatise exotic plant species brought back from remote regions of the world.
