Apollo Fountain Notepad

3,80

This notepad is part of the complete line of products designed for the Palace of Versailles. There was already a fountain on this site in 1636, under Louis XIII, called the Swans Fountain, which Louis XIV had decorated with the famous impressive gilded lead group representing Apollo on his chariot. The work by Tuby, based on a drawing by Le Brun, was inspired by the legend of Apollo, the God of the Sun and the King’s emblem. Tuby produced this monumental group between 1668 and 1670 at the Manufacture des Gobelins, and it was then transported to Versailles and installed and gilded the following year.
