Sculpted Masterpieces of the Gardens of Versailles under Louis XIV

Comprising twenty-seven marble masterpieces, this, the most beautiful set of sculptures in the Gardens of Versailles, was designed to decorate the Water Parterre in front of the Palace’s main façade. Due to a change in policy that came about before the programme was completed, the sculptures were dispersed throughout the Palace’s gardens. Progressively taken to shelter from the weather in recent years, this treasure, left to us by Louis XIV, is now about to be returned to its original cohesion as designed by Charles Le Brun and André Le Nôtre.

Alexandre Maral has a doctorate in history and is a former fellow at the Académie de France in Rome. He is the chief curator at the Palace of Versailles, in charge of sculptures.
