Child's gardening tool belt

A belt for holding tools to introduce children to the joys of gardening

A key piece of gardening equipment with a cute ladybird pattern made for children. This kit contains three tools: a metal dibble for planting, a fork and a square spade for draining and scraping the earth. This very practical and adjustable belt enables young gardeners not to mislay their tools.

In the 17th century, the apprenticeship to become a master gardener lasted four years followed by two years under a master and the final exam. The official gardeners of Versailles had numerous responsibilities. Most of them held the social rank of Supervisor, between that of Controller General whose essential function was to ensure compliance with the orders of the King, passed on by the Buildings Superintendant, and the rank of workman paid for piece-work or on a daily wage.
