This hand-painted figurine for a child represents the Big Bad Wolf, a central figure of the tale of Le Petit Chaperon Rouge (Little Red Riding Hood) by Charles Perrault (1628-1703). Little Red Riding Hood is one of eight prose tales taken from French oral tradition and presented by Charles Perrault in his collection entitled 'Contes de ma mère l'Oye' (Tales of Mother Goose) published in 1697. This collection of tales was dedicated to Elisabeth Charlotte d'Orléans, the youngest niece of Louis XIV.
