A powerful canon of the French Royal Navy!

This hand-painted figurine for a child represents a canon of the artillery of the French Royal Navy. In 1669, Louis XIV entrusted to his minister Colbert the mission of making the French fleet a genuine military and commercial power. Colbert (1619-1683) succeeded brilliantly. By the time he died, the French Royal Navy had 117 ships of which 70 carried at least 50 canons, and a force of 1,200 officers and 53,000 sailors.
