Statue of Winter crib figurine

47,00

In 1674, 24 statues in white marble were commissioned by Colbert to decorate the Water Parterre. Representing the seasons, the male and female figures show attributes that enable us to identify them. Winter, the last season of the year, is represented by a perished old man heating himself at a brazier. An allegory of passing time, the statue of Winter symbolises the end of human life.

Modelled by a Provencal craftsman, these terracotta crib figurines (santons) comply with the charter certified by the Santons de Provence label. They are sold exclusively in the Online Boutique. Each figurine measures 16,5 cm.

Notice to collectors: a set of six crib figurines representing the gardens of the palace of Versailles is available in the Online Boutique of the palace.
