32,98

The ceiling of the old "Queen's Guard Room" became "antechamber of the Grand Couvert" was the subject of a major restoration campaign. This ceiling is decorated with a central painting from the Tent of Le Brun, surrounded by a series of reliefs by Vignon and Antoine Paillet. The entire, spectacular, is typical of the ornamentation of the late eighteenth century. It was in this room that King Louis XIV supped at the Grand Couvert, that is to say, surrounded by the royal family and in public. The spectacular image of the king at the Grand Covered took the full force of a symbol. The work is to study the royal meals with both its rituals and codes, and detailing the menu and composition of food, as the king eats and drinks. It also presents the decoration of this piece evoking the circumstances of his order and its restoration necessary.
