Women of Versailles

23,00

This essay traces the lives and influence held in the Court of Versailles by the wives of the three kings who lived there: Maria-Theresa, Marie Leszczynska and Marie-Antoinette. In addition, the account takes a look at the most important women in the royal family, including princesses of the realm, sisters of sovereigns, future dauphines, mistresses and royal confidantes. No woman who had a lasting impact on Versailles during the reigns of Louis XIV, Louis XV and Louis XVI has been forgotten.

Devised and written on site by Alexandre Maral, one of the museum’s curators, this work recounts the women’s daily lives and also examines their roles and destinies, which were often extraordinary and sometimes tragic.
