This medal represents, on the obverse, the profile of King Louis XVI with the inscription LUDOVICUS XVI FRANC. ET NAV. REX (Louis XVI, King of France and Navarre) and, on the reverse side, the profile of Queen Marie-Antoinette with the inscription MAR. ANTON.AUSTR.FRANCIAE ET NAVARR. REGINA (Marie-Antoinette of Austria, Queen of France and Navarre). It was inspired by a medal made by Benjamin Duvivier, general engraver of the currencies from 1774 to 1791.
