This apron in Toile de Jouy is illustrated with the four seasons. Spring is symbolised by a Maypole dance and gardening, summer by harvests, picnics and fishing scenes, autumn by the grape harvest and winter by ice skating and outings in a horse-drawn sleigh.
Created at the workshops of the Jouy-en-Josas manufacture (in the Yvelines department) in 1759, Toile de Jouy is a cotton fabric with printed patterns, often monochrome on a beige background. The patterns on this apron are printed in red.
