“1st Aerostatic Flight” Medal – 1783” – Arthus-Bertrand

This medal represents the 1st aerostatic flight in history, which took place at Versailles on 19 September 1783. The experiment was carried out by the Montgolfier brothers and took place in the Palace forecourt, with King Louis XVI in attendance. As a precaution, only animals (a sheep, a duck and a rooster) embarked in a wicker basket attached to the balloon. The experience was a success.
