Louis XIV tea towel

16,56

This tea towel was woven. Its pattern appears on both sides of the tea towel. It is easily maintained: washable at 60°C.

The pattern of this tea towel is inspired by the menus given to King Louis XI at his meals. Since the Middle Ages, the grand public meal known as the Grand Couvert symbolised the royal power every day. These elaborate meals, with guests or for a more intimate group, were another way of stating the power of the monarch. From this tradition was born the fame of "French-style service" and French gastronomy. Unlike his successor Louis XV, Louis XIV insisted on attending this ceremonial every day.
