The ultimate napkin ring

16,00

These ceramic napkin rings, handmade by craftsmen, evoke the symbols of the Monarchy: the crown, the braiding, the art of hunting (represented by a hare) as well as the famous quotation attributed to Louis XIV: "l'État c'est moi" (I am the state). They are in porcelain, a fine and translucent material made from kaolin and fired at over 1,200°C.

From the beginning of the 17th century, European potters sought to reproduce the manufacturing techniques of Chinese porcelain. "Soft-paste" porcelain was the fruit of the first European compositions. In spite of its technical imperfections, it led to the development of French and English porcelain factories. It was not until 1708 that the Germans von Tschirnhaus and Böttger, then working for the Meissen factory, discovered the secret of the manufacture of Chinese porcelain. In France, the Vincennes factory, founded in 1738 (moved to Sèvres in 1756) and financed by Louis XV and his "favourites", ended up by supplanting Meissen and imposing its own styles of ceramics.
