One evening, like so many others at the château, Louis XIV sits down to dinner, surrounded by a small crowd of privileged guests. While dishes and delicacies of all kinds are being served, everyone is carried away by the most succulent music, concocted by the chef Lalande. You too can enjoy the ripest fruit of chamber music!

The Symphonies for the king's soupers are emblematic of Versailles and the greatest king in the world. What other Prince would assemble the King's Violins and the winds of his royal écurie for his meal? With the luxury of an opera orchestra, here we have Louis XIV at table with music every day.

From the chapel to the apartments, the whole château resounded with Lalande's music. His Ma¬jesty prayed, ate, laughed and wept with it. Vincent Dumestre has passionately resurrected this royal, gastronomical and therefore opulent music...
