This notebook shows the work of Elisabeth Louise Vigee-Lebrun (1755-1842), portrait of Marie Antoinette Habsburg-Lorraine (1755-1793), Portrait of the Queen said "the rose" (detail) made of oil on canvas.

May 31, 1793, Elisabeth Vigee-Le Brun, protected by the Queen, is received at the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture at the same time that its competitor, Adelaide Labille-Guiard. The same year, she exhibited for the first time at the Salon. Vigee-Le Brun presents including a new portrait of the queen, marked "Gaulle" or "shirt to the queen." Adapted to Parisian fashion by the milliner Rose Bertin, this chiffon dress was the favorite garment of the Queen during her stay at the Petit Trianon, away from the court. The painting was hastily withdrew. Vigee-Le Brun painted then very quickly a second portrait to expose it before the end of the Show. Taking the laying of the first table, she dressed this time the queen of a classic dress, blue-gray silk, marking the implicit support of Marie Antoinette to the Lyon silk. The presentation of this second portrait won a resounding success. Several aftershocks were made, including one kept at Versailles.
