These earrings are made of round and pear-shaped glass imitation pearls.
In the 18th century, pearls were used on all kinds of jewellery: long strands on necklaces, bracelets, earrings and pendants. Pearls were even worn in women’s hair at Court. Many paintings exhibited at the Palace of Versailles bear witness to this style, such as the portrait of Marie de’ Medicis by Frans Pourbus or the famous portrait of Marie-Antoinette by Elisabeth Louise Vigée Le Brun.
