This necklace has two rows of pearly glass pearls closed with an adjustable clasp. It was designed based on Marie-Antoinette’s necklace.
Pearl necklaces were in style in the 18th century among the ladies at Court. A portrait of Marie-Antoinette, painted by her favourite artist, Elisabeth Vigée Le Brun, a copy of which is kept at the Palace of Versailles, shows the Queen dressed in a blue-grey silk dress. Around her neck we can see a two-row pearl necklace.
