BOTANICAL INFORMATION

London plane has long been considered the tree of heroes and kings and is associated with many legends. It was planted as an ornamental tree as early as antiquity, particularly in Greece, but the exact origin of Platanus X acerifoliaare remains unclear.

The first specimens of London plane were planted in 1750 by order of Louis XV in the park of Trianon. The one in the Queen's Hamlet dates from 1798 and is now 30 metres tall. In addition to its majestic foliage, it has an impressive trunk of 7 metres in circumference, earning it the affectionate nickname of “Elephant’s foot”.

CARE

The colour of the leaves will change naturally over time as part of the charm and poetic character of genuine herbariums. To preserve your herbarium in the best conditions, avoid direct contact with UV rays and display it in a room free from damp.
