This medal represents the profile of Louis XIV at the age of 5, based on the work “Medals of the main events of the entire reign of Louis the Great” by Sieur Anisson, director of the Royal Printing Office (1702). On 14 May 1643, at the age of 5, the Dauphin Louis succeeded his father, Louis XIII, and became Louis XIV. This was the start of a long reign that was to last 72 years.
