This bookend is based on the gate of the Court of Honour of the château de Versailles, made under the reign of Louis XIV around 1680 by Jules Hardouin-Mansart.
Removed during the construction of the wing Gabriel of the palace in 1772, it was rebuilt in 2005-2008.
