The pattern is a contemporary reinterpretation of a fabric swatch from the Gazette des Atours de la Reine Marie-Antoinette (the queen's catalogue of her attire), a testament to Marie-Antoinette's interest in fashion. The Gazette des Atours de la Reine is a register that inventoried the fabric samples used to make the queen's clothing. The materials in this Gazette depict an astonishing colour chart of striped or flowered fabrics that reflect the queen's audacity ans fashion sense.
