The scarab beetle in all its forms
This engraving shows sketches of different scarab beetles. The frame is glazed wood and on the back there is a device for hanging it on the wall. The drawings are in black and white and evoke the sketches and drawings displayed in the 'cabinets of curiosities' of the 16th and 17th centuries which were filled with rare or strange objects brought back from voyages. They included insects, animals, plants, minerals and even man-made objects.
